website-automation vs Squarespace

Squarespace built the no-code category. We changed how long it takes.

Same outcome — a clean, custom-domain site for a small business. We get there in 30 seconds instead of 4-8 hours of template wrangling.

Squarespace is the template default. We're the prompt default.

Side by side.

The honest comparison — no marketing fluff.

Where we win

What you get with us that they don't give you.

30 seconds vs 4-8 hours to first draft

Templates require picking, filling, swapping photos, rewriting placeholder copy. AI generation outputs all of that from one prompt. If you want to try a second concept, ours costs 30 more seconds; Squarespace costs another 4 hours.

Per-business differentiation

Squarespace templates are reused thousands of times — designers can spot 'the Avenue template' in three seconds. AI generation produces a different palette, layout, and copy per prompt.

0% transaction fee on e-commerce

Squarespace charges 0–3% on top of Stripe (depending on plan tier). Our Max plan is flat $79/month; you keep 100% above Stripe's ~2.9% processing fee. Over $10K/mo in sales the difference is $0–300/month.

Real Next.js sites, not a hosted editor

Squarespace locks you into their editor — migrating away later is a 2-4 week rebuild. Our generated sites are real Next.js code on Vercel; you can keep evolving them with any dev if you outgrow us.

Pricing that doesn't punish growth

Squarespace Commerce Advanced is $49/month. Our Max is $79/month — but unlimited sites, unlimited generations, Stripe Connect built in. One Max plan replaces a Squarespace Business + Commerce + Member Areas stack.

Where Squarespace wins

Honest take — they're better at this.

Pick Squarespace if any of these matter more to you than what we offer.

Higher visual ceiling for portfolio brands

Squarespace's templates were designed by their in-house team. Used well, they still look better than AI-generated baselines — especially for art-directed brands (luxury hospitality, fine art, wedding photographers).

All-in-one ecosystem

Squarespace bundles scheduling (Acuity), email marketing, member areas, courses. One bill, one login. We focus on the site itself and let you bring your own tools.

Recognized brand

Saying 'my site's on Squarespace' is shorthand everyone understands. We're newer; you'll explain us once.

Switching from Squarespace

The migration path.

A few steps, mostly DNS + content copy. Most stores cut over in an afternoon.

  1. 1

    1. Generate your replacement site

Start at /create with a one-sentence brief. Use your Squarespace site's positioning copy as the prompt. 30 seconds later you have a preview.

  2. 2

    2. Edit copy + swap in your photos

Generated copy is a starting point. Paste your existing About / Services copy into the editor. Upload your real photos (the editor accepts direct uploads).

  3. 3

    3. Map products if you sell

Max plan: connect your Stripe account, add products one by one. The Stripe data — customers, payment methods, subscriptions — stays in Stripe regardless of which storefront you use.

  4. 4

    4. Point your domain

DNS-level switch: update two records at your registrar (or in Cloudflare). 5-30 min propagation. Old Squarespace site stays accessible at its squarespace-site.com URL until you cancel.

  5. 5

    5. Cancel Squarespace

After the new site has been live for a week and Google's reindexed key URLs, cancel Squarespace. Export your Squarespace blog (XML) and import into a future blog if you need posts to survive.

FAQ

Common questions about switching.

Will I lose my SEO rankings if I migrate?

Some, temporarily. Page-level URLs change (Squarespace URLs aren't usually a 1:1 map to ours). Mitigation: set up 301 redirects via Cloudflare Workers or a redirect map in your DNS provider for any high-traffic URLs. Most rankings recover in 2-4 weeks if the new content quality is at least as good.

What about my Squarespace blog?

Squarespace lets you export the blog as XML. Native blog support is launching on our platform soon (we already ship a content/blog/ MDX directory). For now, parking blog posts on a Substack or Ghost subdomain works fine.

Can I import my product catalog?

Manually for now — copy product name, price, image, description into our editor. We're shipping CSV import this quarter. Stripe-level product IDs stay in Stripe (Connect uses your Stripe account).

What about Squarespace member areas?

We don't have native member areas yet. Integrate Memberstack or Outseta from the CTA if gated content is core to your business.

Can I trial both side-by-side?

Yes. Squarespace has a free trial; ours has a free preview before payment. Generate ours, see the result, decide. No commitment.
